Abstract: The 2017 Report reviews key developments in world maritime transport and examines the role of maritime connectivity in facilitating trade and economic development. It analyses trends in seaborne trade, fleet deployment, freight markets, ports and logistics services, and assesses their implications for developing economies. A special focus is placed on maritime transport connectivity, including the factors that influence shipping networks, port integration and access to global markets. The Report evaluates measures of maritime connectivity and considers their relationship with trade performance, transport costs and participation in international supply chains. It also reviews legal, regulatory and technological developments affecting the sector. The analysis highlights the importance of coordinated investments in ports, shipping services and hinterland connections to strengthen competitiveness and support sustainable development objectives.
