Abstract: The 2004 Report examines the relationship between policy coherence, development strategies and integration into the world economy. It reviews recent global economic trends and assesses the sustainability of the international recovery, paying particular attention to global imbalances, exchange-rate developments and trade patterns. The Report analyses how developing countries can establish stronger links between external finance, domestic investment and export growth. It evaluates the role of macroeconomic, monetary and trade policies in supporting development objectives and examines the implications of international financial arrangements for economic stability. The analysis highlights the importance of coherent national and international policy frameworks and considers options to strengthen multilateral cooperation to support development and more balanced global growth.
