Abstract: Tegen het licht van maatschappelijke ontwikkelingen en veranderingen op de arbeidsmarkt, zou leven lang ontwikkelen (LLO) vanzelfsprekend moeten zijn in een ieders werk en leven (SER 2020). Uit onderzoek blijkt dat LLO de veroudering van vaardigheden tegen kan gaan (De Grip en Van Loo 2002) en ervoor kan zorgen dat nieuwe vaardigheden eigen gemaakt worden (Ferreira e.a. 2017), zodat werkenden duurzaam inzetbaar worden en blijven (De Grip 2021, Kok en Scholte 2013). Niet alleen voor individuen is LLO cruciaal. Ook voor toekomstige maatschappelijke uitdagingen, zoals een succesvolle energie- en grondstoffentransitie is LLO een belangrijke randvoorwaarde (Dussaux 2020).
