Abstract:
This paper provides a comprehensive survey of the state of sustainable development in the region, and it serves to highlight the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic. It is based on research done within the ESCAP for its flagship publications. It finds uneven progress in Sustainable Development Goals and given inequality, disparity and exclusion in the region, the recovery from the pandemic is K-shaped both between and within countries. The pandemic has demonstrated the need to refocus economic cooperation on inclusion, sustainability and resilience. Regional cooperation will play a critical role in averting a K-shaped recovery.
