Excel Sheet for Simulating the Relationship between Specific Factors and HOS
John Gilbert
Excel Models for Trade Theory from Utah State University, Department of Economics and Finance
Abstract:
This file contains an Excel spreadsheet for simulating the the relationship between the Specific Factors model and the HOS model of production as in Gilbert, J. and R. Oladi (2008) "A Geometric Comparison of the Transformation Loci with Specific and Mobile Capital" Journal of Economic Education 39(2):145-52. This version is based on the 'live' versions of the Specific factors and HOS sub-models, and does not require Solver or the use of macros. Live geometry shows the long and short-run equilibrium, and the transition path between the two. The tool is described in Gilbert, J. (2011) "Some New Excel-based Tools for Trade Theory and Policy" Jon M. Huntsman School of Business Department of Economics and Finance Working Paper 2011-03.
