Abstract: Building bridges over the river Danube between Bulgaria and Romania leads to full integration of riparian areas in both countries and accelerated economic and social development. The favourable geographical location of the cross-border region of Svishtov – Zimnicea provides opportunities for the development of transit transport in the direction of two of the five Pan-European transport corridors crossing the country. Trafficking survey for the period 2000-2015 shows that the two destinations achieve a 31 km shorter mileage.
