Abstract:
The creation of virtual teams reflects the current trends in work organisation and brings new challenges for managers and team members alike. The rapid development of information technologies have created boundless possibilities to carry out work processes effectively in virtual space where team work is performed from a distance. The achievements of virtual teams and their successful operations depend mainly on the way they are managed and the knowledge, skills and experience of their leaders. The specifics of virtual teams and their characteristics, which set them apart from traditional teams, suggest that their leaders need to possess a considerable set of technical and behavioural qualities. This is a key prerequisite for the teams‘ successful management and ability to face the challenges that would inadvertently come up in the process.
