Abstract: In this short paper, we outline some advantages and particulars of using online data in labor market research. With some data collected for Novosibirsk Region, Russia, in 2017 2020, we examplify the study of labor demand and supply during the first year of the COVID 19 pandemic. The results suggest that while the number of online vacancy ads published by companies did not drop, the wages requested in resume ads had decreased considerably. Both the proposed and the requested wages online, however, are lower than the ones reported by the official statistics.
