INFLUENCE OF GDP ON INNOVATION EXPENDITURE OF SMES IN BULGARIA

Abstract:
The relationship between economic growth (GDP) and the innovation expenditure of the small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in Bulgaria is analysed. Annual data of the National Statistical Institute of Bulgaria (NSI) for the period 2000-2020, with 21 included observations were used. An econometric Ordinary Least Squares method (OLS) was applied. The results of the empirical study show that the increase of the economic growth (GDP) of Bulgaria leads to increase of innovation expenditure of SMEs. There is evidence that one increase of the economic growth the innovation expenditure of small and medium-sized enterprises average increase by 3.6%.
