Abstract: The article presents a current and significant issue by exploring the main challenges faced by consumers and traders during the transition to the Eurozone. In this context, the role of the euro as the single European currency is analysed. The benefits of introducing a single currency within the European Union – both for consumers and for traders, are clarified. The main European and national institutions involved in the process of adopting the euro are outlined, together with the need for the effective implementation of legislation in the fields of consumer protection and fair competition. Special attention is given to issues related to safeguarding the rights and the economic and financial interests of consumers in the context of Bulgaria’s transition to the euro. From this perspective, conclusions are drawn regarding the necessity of ensuring adequate safeguards in consumer–trader interactions during the Eurozone accession process.
