Abstract: The agricultural sector, which has a traditional character for Bulgaria, must cope with numerous challenges that it faces today. Leading among them are climate change, soil degradation, vast water resources, and the adverse impact of man on the environment. In this regard, innovations in the form of new technologies, methods, approaches, and systems are becoming the main driver for sustainable development of the agricultural sector. On the other hand, a prerequisite for investing in innovative activity is the existence of appropriate intellectual property protection for researchers and entrepreneurs. The presence of such protection represents an economic incentive for long-term investments and increased efficiency. In connection with all this, this article examines innovation and intellectual property in the context of the agricultural sector.
