Abstract: The articles in this special collection are a tribute to Italo Calvino and a work of fiction that has not lost its power to fascinate readers and scholars for over half a century. This special issue draws attention to how this very short work of fiction continues to serve as a source of inspiration for geographers, as well as for scholars all across the humanities and social sciences.
