Abstract: Estimates of workers’ willingness to pay for nonwage job attributes (e.g., the risk of injury) are usually based on hedonic wage methods. In this study, workers’ marginal willingness to pay for nonwage job attributes is derived from an analysis of job quitting behavior employing discrete choice models. Empirical estimates of the workers’ marginal willingness to pay for nonwage job attributes are obtained in two ways. First, estimates are obtained by re-interpreting empirical studies of workers’ on-the-job mobility behavior in the US. Second, estimates for workers’ willingness to pay for commuting are derived based on an analysis ofjob quitting behavior in the Netherlands.
