Organizational success factors in market-driven local agro-food industries: a regional case study from Sicily

Abstract: Local industries often face fierce competition in the same region, especially as regards traditional products. Competition mechanisms to survive may be based on learning principles and organizational networks. The present paper summarizes the most important literature in the field and tests the above proposition by means of a case study on local honey production in Sicily. The analysis is based on a recently developed artificial intelligence method for nominal (linguistic) information, coined decision tree analysis.
