Major Problems Persist with UK Price Inflation Data

Abstract: The Economics Affairs Committee of the House of Lords has published a damning report on the measurement of inflation statistics in the UK. The House of Lords Report number 246 Measuring Inflation accuses the UK Statistics Authority of being at risk of a “breach of its statutory duties on the publication of statistics, by refusing to correct an error that it openly admits exists in the Retail Prices Index (RPI).†The UK Statistics Authority has a duty to "promote and safeguard the quality of official statistics".
