Abstract: Economic activity in Austria continues to pick up speed. After a sluggish first half of 1999 (+1.2 percent), the Austrian economy grew by 3 percent in the third quarter. Business surveys around the turn of the year continue to reflect a highly positive atmosphere. In the first quarter, the assessment of business prospects has been the most favourable ever since 1994.
