Abstract:
This paper seeks to offer an understanding of empowerment in terms of the experiences of a group of slum dwelling older women in Hyderabad. It is the contention of this paper that their experience does not reflect the negative view of ageing common among Western researchers to the effect that old age is necessarily debilitating and disempowering.
