Abstract:
Digital transformation has gained substantial attention in both academic research and industry practice for its potential benefits in achieving sustainable development, but its implementation in the construction industry remains nascent. This study aims to enhance the understanding of digital transformation to facilitate its implementation within construction organizations. To this end, in‐depth interviews were conducted to (1) explore different understandings of digital transformation within the industry, (2) identify key factors influencing its implementation in organizations, and (3) propose practical strategies based on these insights. By examining digital transformation through the lens of industry experts, this research revealed that digital transformation extends beyond technology adoption but encompasses internal organizational change and alignment with strategic objectives. In addition, nine factors influencing the implementation of digital transformation have been identified and categorized into three dimensions: organizational behavior, external influences, and technology perception. Based on these findings, this study has developed an organizational digital transformation framework with practical strategies to support sustainable implementation in organizations. This research provided insights into both theoretical advancement and practical guidance for a more resilient and sustainable construction industry.
