Abstract:
Lebanon is going through a reconstruction and rehabilitation stage in order to erase all signs of war and destruction which lasted for twenty years. The Lebanese have the opportunity to rebuild the country from scratch. In order to follow a correct development path, the country must take into consideration the sustainable development of Lebanon that will insure economic growth with less impact on the environment and natural resources. This paper stresses the importance of eco-efficiency in the development of the economy. In addition, it discusses the environmental problems in the country and proposes technological, industrial, and sustainable development strategies which will leap-frog Lebanon into the next century. © 1997 by John Wiley & Sons, Ltd. and ERP Environment.
