Abstract:
This article analyzes the effect of R&D performance (RDP) on the market competitiveness of Taiwanese life insurance firms using the Lerner index (LI) under two different market competitiveness positions. Results show that RDP has significantly deferred effects on market competitiveness, and the relationships between RDP and market competitiveness vary in different market competitiveness positions. The current RDP and all deferred effects have a significantly positive influence on LI. The RDP growth momentum can last for three years for the high market competitiveness group but only two years for the low market competitiveness group. Consequently, life insurance firms with high market competitiveness have better RDP growth momentum than those with low market competitiveness.
