East Asian Policy (EAP), 2025, vol. 17, issue 03, 79-96

Abstract: A component of China’s development strategy in Southeast Asia, the Digital Silk Road (DSR) aims to improve economic cooperation and trade, increase person-to-person exchanges and bridge the digital gap by improving the digital infrastructure of partner nations using digital technologies, telecommunications infrastructure, e-commerce and digital payments, and smart cities. This paper examines the DSR and its strategies for developing digital infrastructure in the region given the significant size of the economies and populations involved.
