Abstract:
Twice, in 2016 and 2014, Donald J Trump was elected America’s president, both times facing China as his biggest foreign policy challenge. In his first term he was foiled by Democrats, China’s unwillingness to negotiate and the pandemic. Trump’s second term followed a failed Biden presidency and a confusing foreign policy, especially on China and Taiwan. Early in his second term, Trump attained domestic and foreign successes, promising improved China relations while restraining Taiwan’s President Lai against provoking China.
