Abstract: The structural and magnetic properties ofCu-coatedCoclusters are investigated with empirical genetic algorithm simulation and a spin-polarizedspdtight-binding model Hamiltonian. In some specific stoichiometric compositions, icosahedralCon(n=1, 2, 4, 7, 13, 19, 55)clusters perfectly coated with ACumonolayer or dual layer are obtained. The outerCulayers lead to significant modification of the magnetic moment of theCocore, depending on the structure and thickness of theCulayers. The interaction betweenCuandCoatoms induces a nonzero magnetic moment forCuatoms.
