Abstract: The important role of surface resonances in determining the intensities of electron beams diffracted from theCu(111)surface is shown and interpreted in model calculations with a step-barrier of variable thickness in front of the crystal surface. The importance of using a finely tuned surface barrier potential in VLEED intensity calculations is stressed.
