Abstract: Research has been conducted on joining Carbon fiber/Poly Ether Ketone Ketone (CF/PEKK) laminates. In terms of chemical bonding strength, adsorption capacity, closely linked to surface energy, plays a crucial role in enhancing chemical bonding. Laminates and adhesives should possess similar surface characteristics to improve adsorption capacity. Additionally, the polarity of the adhesive significantly enhances its adsorption capacity. Halloysite Nanotubes (HNTs), a type of nanoparticle, have garnered attention for their ability to improve the interfacial bonding strength of composites. With hydrogen bonding groups in their molecular structure, HNTs can increase the polarity of the polyetherimide (PEI) adhesive when incorporated, thereby enhancing its bonding performance. Thus, this study aimed to enhance the bonding performance of CF/PEKK laminates using a PEI adhesive. The laminate surface was treated with mechanical abrasion (MA) to improve the bonding strength, and the PEI adhesive film was modified by adding HNT. The wettability of the material was estimated using a contact angle test, which measures the wettability and surface energy of the material by analyzing the angle formed between a liquid droplet and the solid surface. The bonding strength was evaluated by measuring the lap shear strength.
