Chapter 11 in Economic Empowerment of Women in the Islamic World:Theory and Practice, 2020, pp 217-242 from World Scientific Publishing Co. Pte. Ltd.
Abstract:
This chapter highlights the truth that Islam aims at ensuring equal rights for men and women as well as equal valuation of the work of women and men. It asserts that Islam itself does not generate inequality and low levels of women’s development and empowerment.Historically, the advent and implementation of the Islamic paradigm ensured the restoration and protection of the women’s fundamental individual and socio-economic rights, which were mercilessly denied in the pre-Islamic times of ignorance called Jahiliyyah — the era of pagan Arabs. Therefore, the Islamic paradigm ensured the socio-economic empowerment of women in both transcendental and mundane realms in the Golden Age of Islam.
