Blockchain-Based Internet of Things (IoT) Security for Data Sharing in Smart City Environment

Abstract: Blockchain (BC) gained significant interest because of its undeniable nature and related advantages of security and privacy, BC has the power to solve drawback of Internet of Things (IoT) like data protection and privacy. Due to the IoT network’s distributive nature and massive scale, the privacy and security of IoT have a major challenge. Blockchain has huge attention to improving audibility, IoT anonymity, security, and reliability in which billions of recently used devices are linked with internet to offer personalized services and everyday life. The most prominent issue is the scalability approach and is limited to high resource devices and must be within the wireless range of every IoT device. BC mechanism plays a vital role in safeguarding IoT-oriented applications by becoming part of a security mosaic, in the context of BC context realizes secure network over untrusted parties which is desirable in IoT with several heterogeneous devices. The BC technology has various advantages and various challenging techniques are presented to resolve the same issues in IoT. The proposed blockchain-based IoT is designed to handle mainly privacy and security threats, though consider many IoT device’s resource constraints. A BC-based innovative structure is used for secure IoT data sharing and privacy preserving in a smart city environment. A smart city data exchange scenario is developed to verify the security efficacy and predict the utility of the concept proposed. Presented techniques of BC are not manageable to develop IoT applications because of complex algorithms, security overhead, throughput, and latency.
