Chapter 9 in Lecture Notes in Global-Local Policy Interactions, 2022, pp 157-168 from World Scientific Publishing Co. Pte. Ltd.
Abstract:
We will focus on the role of international organizations (IOs) in shaping global policies. As we have already become aware of, several IOs such as the World Bank, the OECD, the World Health Organization, the World Trade Organization (WTO), the United Nations Development Program, to name a few, have played major roles in initiating and framing several global policies. We will explore the motivation of, and the strategies used by, IOs to develop and implement global policies, their own interests, and the conflicts created with states that were part of the development of those policies. We will also discuss the interactions between IOs and NGOs, both local and international.
