Abstract:
AbstractThis chapter presents a three-dimensional virtual reality model aimed at assisting the user to visually explore social network structures and relationships. The three-dimensional model uses a combination of nodes and paths to represent actors and the strength and direction of their relationships. Virtual reality provides the mechanism for manipulation of the developed model in real-time. The effectiveness of this visual tool is demonstrated empirically by having postgraduate students, organised into focus groups, engage in a social network analysis exercise with data collected in an academic work environment.
