Chapter 14 in Knowledge Management:Through the Technology Glass, 2005, pp 221-235 from World Scientific Publishing Co. Pte. Ltd.

Abstract: AbstractIn this chapter we take a holistic view of knowledge management systems (KMS) where technological and social aspects are considered together. First, a brief discussion of major social factors (organisational leadership, culture and measurement) is added to earlier discussion of KM technologies in Chapter 2. Then, the results of an empirical study are presented reporting on the knowledge workers' perceptions of their organisation's socio-technical KMS. The study is carried out in the context of an academic school. The main findings reveal a relatively greater perceived importance of social compared to technical aspects of KMS. The findings also indicate a relatively poorer perceived implementation of social than technical aspects of the KMS within the case school.
