Abstract: AbstractIn the full-fledged market economies, it is competition and institutional constraints that create incentives and conditions propitious for various business practices to thrive. But how do such practices develop in evolving markets of which weak institutional environments is a typical feature? This question is central to this chapter, which explores corporate social responsibility as business practice within the context of market transformation in Russia. It introduces historic circumstances surrounding the development of CSR in the emerging market economy, outlines particularities of CSR in the country and its potential to contribute to the socio-economic development.
