Charles Zhang

Chapter 12 in Power Talk:Insights from Asia's Leading Entrepreneurs, 2018, pp 113-123 from World Scientific Publishing Co. Pte. Ltd.

Abstract: In the Chinese digital sphere, the giants of BAT have a formidable presence. Representing the trio of Baidu, Alibaba and Tencent, the three companies dominate the internet space with over US$50 billion in sales collectively in 2016. As if the domestic market was not enough, Alibaba and Tencent have notably scoured the globe for acquisitions to widen their share of the market. From micro-blogging, e-commerce, and payment systems, the giants’ appetites are insatiable. And growth momentum isn’t slowing down. In 2016, Alibaba and Tencent registered remarkable upticks in sales by 56% and 48% respectively.
