China’s Xugong Construction Machinery Group: IT-enabled Slack Redeployment

Wenyu (Derek) Du and Shan L Pan

Chapter 19 in Digital Enablement and Innovation in China:A Casebook, 2019, pp 137-143 from World Scientific Publishing Co. Pte. Ltd.

Abstract: Slack resources are resources that exceed the current demand of an organization. As the economy slows down and the sales drop, many resources become slack. IT plays an important role in redeploying slack resources into productive use, because of its ability to mobilize resources across boundaries. This chapter explains how Xugong Construction Machinery Group, one of the largest construction machinery companies in China, redeployed its slack resources via an ERP implementation in 2009. The redeployment consists of four phases, namely, track, discover, collect, and dispense.
