Chapter 4 in Innovation and Growth:What Do We Know?, 2013, pp 87-110 from World Scientific Publishing Co. Pte. Ltd.
Abstract:
AbstractThis paper reviews two strands of research-based literature on innovation. The first strand deals with the financial valuation implications of innovations. It addresses questions related to how innovation is financed and its impact on the shareholder value of the firm that is engaging in that innovation. The second strand of the literature deals with financial innovation, namely the process by which new financial securities and structures are created. The focus of the survey is on understanding the underlying economic forces related to innovation and the managerial decisionmaking implications of these forces.
