Abstract:
AbstractIn some meetings, I have seen retailers' sales forecasts for 2010. Wal-Mart, the leader, is expected to sell an amazing €337 billion worth of food from 8,400 stores across 15 countries. Carrefour is the second largest, and expected to sell €115 billion worth of food in 35 countries. The next is Tesco, far away with €78 billion of food sales. Although these numbers are impressive, since they are even higher than some countries, the market share of these retailers has decreased. In 2003 the top 20 retailers had 23.4% of market share, and in 2010 they now have around 21% of total sales in the world. Why has this happened?…
