Chapter 15 in Reform of the International Monetary System and Internationalization of the Renminbi, 2015, pp 189-196 from World Scientific Publishing Co. Pte. Ltd.
Abstract:
Currently, the fairly developed currency unions in the world include the European Economic and Monetary Union (EMU), the West African Economic and Monetary Union (UEMOA), and the Central African Currency Union. The EMU, also known as the European Monetary Union, is thus far the most successful currency union in operation. Some EMU countries are already using the euro, which has become the second biggest global reserve currency after the dollar. This chapter provides an overview of the evolution of European currency cooperation and summarizes its experiences and lessons.
