Abstract: Corporate crime that is sometimes labeled organizational offending is resulting from offenses by collectivities or aggregates of discrete individuals. If a corporate official violates the law in acting for the corporation, we still define it as corporate crime (Shichor and Heeren, 2021). However, if he or she gains personal benefit in the commission of a crime against the corporation, we regard it as occupational crime. A corporation cannot be subject to imprisonment, and therefore, the majority of penalties to control individual violators are not available for corporations and corporate crime. Detected corporate crime can harm executives involved, since “corporate outcomes such as misconduct serve as signals of the underlying quality of the individuals employed by the firm” (Naumovska et al., 2020: 883).
