Chapter 6 in Convenience Orientation in Corporate Crime:Corrective Recovery Responses for Compliance and Conformance, 2025, pp 113-139 from World Scientific Publishing Co. Pte. Ltd.

Abstract: Convenience orientation in corporate crime is typically causing violation of the legal license to operate by lack of compliance as well as violation of the social license to operate by lack of conformance. When violations are detected, many corporations tend to hire fraud examiners to review the matter and present their recommendations for recovery. Fraud examiners are corporate investigators who are charged with the task of reconstructing past events and sequences of events. Corporate investigators have been studied in countries like Australia (King, 2020), the Netherlands (Meerts, 2020), Norway (Gottschalk, 2020), and the United Kingdom (Button et al., 2023; Kapend et al., 2024). King (2020: 709) identified nine attributes that make a successful corporate investigator:The study found that the corporate investigator needs an array of attributes to effectively work in a complex and challenging environment, identifying nine main attributes.
