Climate Finance and Corporate Social Responsibility

Fatma Mrad, Dorra Ellouze and Mohamed Imen Gallali

Chapter 6 in Climate Finance & Accountability:A Comprehensive and Holistic Approach, 2026, pp 161-185 from World Scientific Publishing Co. Pte. Ltd.

Abstract: A considerable body of literature recognizes that CSR is an important driver of financing climate change mitigation and adaptation. As part of their CSR practices, firms’ managers engage in costly and sophisticated environmental processes in order to mitigate their gas emissions, efficiently use natural resources, limit air pollution, and treat nonbiodegradable waste. However, some companies engage in greenwashing and misleading CSR practices that do not meet the climate finance goals.Special attention is paid to the role of financial institutions in climate finance, especially by providing capital flows to carbon energy technologies and agricultural projects through different green products and services. The main objective of this chapter is to provide an overview of the literature exploring the relationship between CSR and climate finance, highlighting both positive contributions and challenges.
