Über die Rhetorik hinaus: Reale Auswirkungen der UNESCO-Konvention zum Schutz der kulturellen Vielfalt

Mira Burri

Papers from World Trade Institute

Abstract: The Swiss Academy of Social Sciences and Humanities (SAGW) organised a broader discussion on cultural diversity (which is now one of SAGW's key topics), what the notion entails, and what policies are meant to implement it. The debate was multidisciplinary and sought linking law with history, migration and media studies, involving also the major Swiss stakeholders at the federal and cantonal levels. The work resulted in a conference at the University of Zurich in January 2010. The proceedings have been published by the SAGW in its series 'Sprachen und Kulturen': Von der Deklaration zur Umsetzung - Schutz und Förderung der kulturellen Vielfalt in der Schweiz (Bern: SAGW, 2011). The chapter here focuses on the (real) legal implications for Switzerland as a ratifying party of the 2005 UNESCO Convention on Cultural Diversity.
