Abstract: While separating direct and reverse logistics flows, the complexity of returns process management has led to the emergence of specific market players unique to these flows. These entities may be formed by participants in direct flows or engaged as specialized external support. Practice-oriented analyses show that most entities involved in reverse logistics belong to specialized business subjects that perform only this type of work and remain independent from actors in regular flows. The paper analyses the volume and importance of reverse logistics flows, focusing on entities such as centralized return centres, 3PL and 4PL providers for reverse flows, and various business entities of the secondary market. Its aim is to indicate the complexity of tasks performed by these specialized entities, their scarcity on a global scale, and the large unexploited business potential in this market segment.
