Impact of Diversity and Inclusion Initiatives on Employee Retention: A case Study

Abstract: This study examined the effect of diversity and inclusion (D&I) initiatives on employee retention in British American Tobacco (BAT) Nigeria. The research was motivated by increasing concerns over workplace inequality and the growing need for inclusive practices as a retention strategy in Nigerian organizations. A quantitative survey design was employed, and data were collected from 248 employees using a structured questionnaire. Descriptive statistics were used to analyze perception-based responses, while a Chi-square test of independence was conducted to determine the relationship between D&I initiatives and retention. The findings revealed that a majority of employees positively perceived BAT’s diversity practices in the areas of gender equality, equal opportunity, policy communication, and management enforcement.
