EconStor Research Reports from ZBW - Leibniz Information Centre for Economics

Abstract: This report examines the developments of digital transformation among Swiss firms focusing on the adoption of digital technologies, their strategic and organisational implications, and the associated challenges, based on a representative enterprise survey conducted in 2020. The digital transformation has been attracting considerable interest, not least because of the significant uncertainties surrounding its potential impact on competitiveness and employment. Moreover, the digital transformation is a matter of particular concern as it is not only linked to the process of digitalisation but also involves strategic and organisational aspects of great importance. Such developments include the creation of new business models, alterations in leadership styles and novel forms of organising businesses that address the changing needs of customers and evolving aspirations of the workforce. The objective of these developments is to enable businesses to respond effectively to new competitive pressures from market peers.
