RAC - Revista de Administração Contemporânea (Journal of Contemporary Administration), 2018, vol. 22, issue 4, 531-551

Abstract: The objective of this work was to identify the factors that lead Volleyball players to change team and country to continue their career. There were 68 participants (48 current athletes and 20 former athletes), 43 men and 25 women, with a mean age of 27 years. Participants were divided into 2 research groups: G1 (International Athletes) and G2 (National Athletes). We used a questionnaire consisting of structured, open-ended and closed-ended questions. Analysis of the results was conducted through descriptive analysis and inferential analysis, both between groups and intragroup. The results showed that there was no difference between groups (p> 0.05) and that the reason motivating athletes into the expatriation process, independent of the sample group, was the search for improved salary. It can be concluded that for the participants evaluated of this study that salary was the decisive factor in accepting expatriation and that expatriation is well received by the athletes. In addition, the results demonstrate that there is a need for strategies to prepare future athletes for the expatriation process, in order to better adapt it. JEL Classification Codes: O15, J11, L83.
