Abstract: The computer-based patient record (electronic patient record) is an area of medical informatic that has been well discussed during this decade. It has been alleged that the powerful combination of computers, communication networks, online medical information, and electronic patient data can improve the quality of health services, increase access to health care, productivity of health professionals, and reduce unnecessary cost. Patient registration: admission/transfer/discharge is the basic module of a patient management system. The purpose of this work is to describe the implementation of a patient registration system, named R-ATA, implemented in the Lauro Wanderley Teaching Hospital of the Universidade Federal da Paraíba, Brazil.
