Abstract: The objective of this study was to evaluate the importance that companies give to all variables that create value chains as contributors to the competitive advantage of the companies and its relation with supply chain management. In this way a field research was made along with main executives of companies that direct or indirectly interact with aspects related to these variables. These were defined as the ones which create Porter's value scale (1985). Data were obtained from a sample of convenience formed by 100 companies, reaching 62% feed-back. The statistic analysis was developed based on descriptive statistical and multivariate data analysis, specifically factor analysis technique. The results show that there was a movement of variables grouped accordingly Porter (1985), as part of primary activities towards support tasks. Besides, two factor or component principals were identifies, named strategic management and logistics and operations, which lead to the supposition that supply chain has a significant importance in this process. However, technology development and acquisition have contributed less then the other variables.
