Abstract: One of the main key policies of the European Union is regional development. It is based on the principle of financial solidarity and provides support to countries and regions that are underdeveloped or facing structural difficulties in order to create jobs and increase competitiveness. Since 1957, when the Treaty of Rome was signed, which laid the foundations of the European Economic Community, the regional disparities between the signatory states were not significant, but both in the preamble and in art. 2, stipulated this need. The European Union's regional policy has been built around the concept of economic and social cohesion. In this article we will highlight the main features of European funds, in Romania, for regional development.
