Abstract:
This paper offers a preliminary assessment of some aspects of the legislative proposals for the CAP after 2020, which were presented by the European Commission on June 1, 2018. In the first section, we analyze the objectives of the new CAP and their implementation in the form of national strategic plans. The next four sections focus on four themes at the core of debates on the future CAP: i) environment and climate change; ii) risk management; iii) overnutrition; and iv) innovation. For each of these four themes, we formulate policy recommendations based on the latest research developments. The concluding section analyzes to what extent the June 2018 proposals for the next CAP are consistent with these research developments and policy recommendations.
