Abstract: 100 years ago, Professor Béla Reichenbach was appointed head of the then established Department of Industrial Engineering at the Faculty of Economics of the Budapest University of Science and Technology (since 1921, the Royal Hungarian Pázmány Péter University). The department has played an important role in agricultural higher education under different leaders, having gone through different political systems, a world war and a revolution, a change of seat and six different university name and organizational changes. It became famous as the “Gödöllő School of Industrial Engineering” and has trained several generations of agricultural engineers, plant management agricultural engineers, economic agricultural engineers, business economics engineers, doctoral students and managers. The study reviews the changes in the 100 years since its foundation in the hope that the department will be able to continue its educational and research activities for the success of Hungarian agriculture in the future. The study outlines the path that led to the department's current situation and discusses the consequences.
