Abstract:
The fundamental objective of the international comparative analysis is to examine the milk production of three countries – Hungary, the Czech Republic and Slovakia – that are classified in a cluster in terms of production in international publications and have similar production characteristics. Based on the database of the Farm Accountancy Data Network (FADN), the study seeks an answer to the question of what differences and similarities characterize the management of milk producers in these countries, the size and structure of their assets, the characteristics, efficiency and trends of their production. Their common characteristic is that the production value per total asset is high in all three countries, almost double the European Union average. The proportion of buildings is the determining factor within the fixed assets, but it shows a marked difference compared to the structure characteristic of the Union, where the value of land dominates. Due to the relatively high level of the workforce, the fixed asset value per annual labor unit is 20-30% of the EU value. The composition of current assets is similar, and equity shows a higher growth rate than debt. In the Czech Republic, development support was much higher than in either Hungary or Slovakia. The value of net fixed investment in the period under review was consistently positive only in this country. Slovak labor use decreased significantly during the period under review, but is still the highest in the EU. Hungary has the lowest unpaid labor unit on farms, and the lowest labor force per livestock unit is employed.
